About the Office
The Office of Student Affairs Assessment serves The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and the Division of Student Affairs by providing the leadership and expertise to advance a culture of evidence upon which the effectiveness of division programs, services, and initiatives are based while maximizing opportunities for student learning.
Guided by student development theory in conjunction with CAS Standards, regional accrediting standards, and current best practices, the Office of Student Affairs Assessment is committed to creating an ethos of active and intentional assessment planning for the purposes of program improvement and accountability.

Erin Bentrim-Tapio, Ph.D., joined The University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2006 as the Director of Student Affairs Assessment. She also serves as an adjunct member of the UNCG graduate faculty. Over the last 16 years, Dr. Bentrim-Tapio has served in a variety of positions in higher education administration including Assistant Dean of Students and Assistant to the President. Her most recent experience was at a private two-year college where she served as the Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Research. In this position, she coordinated a campus-wide assessment and effectiveness program for all academic and educational support units. She also directed the accreditation process by serving as the institutional liaison to the regional accrediting body (SACS) and the chair of the institution’s QEP planning team.
Dr. Bentrim-Tapio has led several strategic planning and assessment initiatives for organizations in her local community. In addition, she serves as an assessment consultant at the annual National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) conference, the annual International Assessment and Retention conference, and for other colleges and universities.
Dr. Bentrim-Tapio was recently elected by her peers to serve at the national level as co-chair of the NASPA Student Affairs Assessment, Evaluation, and Research Knowledge Community. Her term will begin in March 2009.
Dr. Bentrim-Tapio is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Wofford College where she earned a B.A. in English. Dr. Bentrim-Tapio also holds an M.Ed. in Student Personnel Services and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and Research, both from the University of South Carolina.
